How is movement coaching different from fitness training?
Movement coaching is designed to empower you by re-educating and retraining poor movement patterns and inefficient joint and muscle programming. You will learn to engage your art form, sport, or daily physical activities, differently. Optimal fitness in this process is a by-product of the mindful awareness of how to utilize proper body mechanics to understand and maintain total well being.
How is Gyrotonic different from Yoga?
Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis focus on fluidity of movement. Although Yoga enthusiasts will no doubt recognize traditional asanas postures are not held for long periods of time as in Yoga. Instead, the forms are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of breath, in a continuous motion, making exercises appear and feel more like a dance or swimming than classic yoga.
The practice of Gyrotonics and Gyrokinesis will assist in deepening your regular Yoga practice by developing an awareness of proper body mechanics.
How is Gyrotonic different from Pilates?
Gyrotonic/Gyrokinesis move through three planes of movement. Exercises are continuous, circular, fluid and put emphasis on decompressing the joints and strengthening the connective tissue. Pilates moves in one plane of movement at a time. It is linear.
Both work on core strength however in Pilates the focus is control and stability. In Gyrotonic/Gyrokinesis the emphasis is on having mobility and fluidity.
The two technologies work together to ensure optimal health.
What is your movement coaching process?
My movement coaching process begins with a series of nine sessions. Sessions can be completed in 1 to 3 months; once a week to 3 times a week . The first phase is used to awaken or turn on the muscles and joints. This is a re-education process.
The next phase is designed to build strength and/or flexibility in the body. Here you are challenged to go beyond past limitations. Together we explore issues and areas that might be impending your optimal performance. This is a growth process.
Once you have developed a heightened sense of presence, awareness, strength and control the next phase is designed to integrate the new concepts using advanced movements and additional tools that will help you to achieve and sustain your personal and/or professional goals.
